Jane Gerard, CPDT-KA, KPA-CTP, IAABC-ADT
Animal Trainer + Behavior Specialist
Jane’s Story
Growing up in the Bahamas, I developed a lifelong passion for animals through experiences like swimming in the ocean and riding horses. This early connection to animals inspired my professional journey, which took me from the Bahamas to the UK, where I studied horse training and stable management with the British Horse Society.
In 1980, a unique opportunity shifted my path into marine animal training, and for 17 years, I worked with dolphins, sea lions, and seals across Europe, Mexico, the Bahamas, and New York. This experience broadened my understanding of animal behavior and training techniques, laying the foundation for my future work in companion animal training.
In 1999, I moved to Taos, New Mexico, where I founded the area’s first non-kennel dog training and boarding facility. There, I developed Circle Training©, a unique methodology combining environment-based principles with effective training techniques. In 2011, I expanded my work to Alabama, establishing a second facility with a focus on a multi-species approach, catering to dogs, horses, and birds. Circle Training© earned an award from the University of North Alabama in 2015 for its innovation and effectiveness.
After returning to Taos in 2016, I served as a consultant for the local animal shelter, applying my expertise to improve animal welfare. Now, I am in the process of developing my third training and boarding facility, bringing over 35 years of experience to help owners and animals build lasting, positive relationships.
